Junior's Detective Badge

As you know, there are five steps in each girl scout badge. The detective badge was no different.

For step one, we practiced the power of observation by noticing the changes in the church library. We also played Kim's Game, where we tried to remember as many objects as possible that were under a cloth.

To complete the second step, we wrote messages in lemon juice. When we dried them, (with moms hair dryer!) we could see what we wrote pretty clearly. (If we used enough lemon juice...) And that's not all we did! We also learned some basic codes.

The third step was pretty cool. We studied the different types of fingerprints. Then we took our own fingerprints and decided what type we had. The people that had fingerprints too blurry to see every time we decided were vampires.

For the fourth step, Try out detective science, we looked at different kinds of cloth under a microscope. It was crazy how different the the cloths looked! We also studied handwriting/signatures. Can you really tell a persons personality by looking at their writing?

Last but not least, we went on a scavenger hunt to finish off the badge. The first clue was in pig pen, one of the codes we learned. And the treasure at the end of the hunt was great! We also solved 4 minute mysteries that mommy found online.

We did 2 things for each step, so we really earned this badge!
