Capitol Hill Litlle League Opening Day

A few of the girls were around to provide the color guard for the Little League Opening Day festivities. The led the parade of teams around the block and then stepped on to the mound while the Star Spangled Banner was sung.

Girl Scouts Rock the Mall Sing Along

On Saturday, June 9th, 200,000 girls and adults from around the world are expected to come together on June 9, 2012 for the world's largest Sing-Along. The pre-show is from 9-noon and the main event is from 12-4.

A video of the theme song IGNITE can be found here, as well as a list of the 50 top Girl Scout songs that will be sung. I don't know half of them, but we've begun teaching the girls as many as we know!

Cookies, cookies, and more cookies

The wall of cookies in my dining room.

Our first cookie booth at Crate and Barrel up on Mass Ave., NW. It was a success -- 80 plus boxes sold on a slow Sunday afternoon. Who can turn down 6 year old girls in uniform?

World Thinking Day 2012

I think everyone who attended World Thinking Day yesterday had a really good time. Our troop had chosen Norway for our country so for the last couple of meetings we did all sorts of activities related to Norwegian culture.

The first week, after finding Norway in an atlas we talked a bit about its climate and what sort of animals live there. We passed around some Norwegian sweaters and jewelry and looked at a traditional dress. The girls then learned how to finger knit, made little woven heart decorations and had a snack of open-faced sandwiches.

During the second meeting we listened to some traditional Hardanger fiddle music and learned a little dance. The girls drew tons of pictures of gnomes, animals and flags for our display. And for our snack, the girls made krumkake, a cookie baked on a flat iron and then rolled into cones.

Many thanks to all the parent volunteers, particularly Kari, Jenn, Amy, Josie and Keira for helping out with the event.
